4 DESIGN AND DECORATE Introduction I have been involved with many kitchen designs during my career, but it seems rather appropriate that while I was writing this book I was re-planning and extending the kitchen in my own home. Although many of you may think that it must be very easy for interior designers to design for their own house, I can assure you, when you have too much information it can be more difficult to make the decisions needed. Planning my kitchen, then, has given me an insight into how it feels when asked to make the choices that will affect your home. I hope this is reflected in the way the book has been written, giving you information in a very practical and helpful manner, with a few personal experiences added for good measure. Design and Decorate Kitchens has been written to give you an insight into the world of kitchen design, explaining the styles now available and showing how they can be adapted to best suit your family and home. The Focus File section on pages 60-77 then looks at the elements needed to complete a kitchen. Wallcoverings, flooring, worktops and Hghting are all looked at in detail, ensuring you have all the information to make educated decisions that will avoid costly mistakes.
