'ifiering building styles originating from a 1,200-Year long history have shaped the form ot Aachen cathedral as it can be seen today. At the core of this impressive church building is the former palatine chapel of Charles the Great, which was for many centuries the largest vaulted building north of the Alps. The monumental choir hall in the foreground is a masterpiece of late gothic architecture.
