AUTHOR
Ginger Adams Otis
Ginger Adams Otis moved to New York City in 1995, at the height ofthe city's housing boom. With $50 in her pocket and images of a Soho loft dancing in her head, she navigated the mean streets on a shoestring budget (sleeping on friend's couches), gradually building a career as a journalist and travel writer. Ginger has written for publications such as the Maq^ Voice, the Notion, News-day, Ms Magazine, JANE, the Ex-Berliner and In These Times, and also does radio work for Pacifica, the Associated Press, National Public Radio and the BBC Although her assignments take her far and wide, Ginger is always happy to return home to her beloved NYC and {at last!) her Nolita apartment.
To the fabulous Jay Cooke in the LP Oakland office, thanks for the enthusiasm, the support, the feedback, the hours and effort you put into this project. Did I ever teli you how grateful I am for this opportunity, and for your guidance? I am forever in the debt of Holly in Australia, whose fine editorial eye saved me from many a gaffe, and greatly improved the finished product. To ail the others in California and Australia who helped with maps and random questions, and to LP's previous NYC authors, a big thank you for the behind-the-scenes propping up! Last, but not least, thanks to my friends who stayed out 'til the wee hours and gave up weekends and weeknights to play tourist. Finally, thank you to the beautiful, inspiring, everchanging city of New York that has become my home.
The 1st and 2nd editions of this bool< were written by Dan! Valent.
PHOTOGRAPHER
Dan Herrick
Dan Herrick has lived in New York City for four years. He completed work for the guide during a busy month between elections and Fashion Week. His favorite place to photograph was Coney Island - rich with all its interesting characters and history. At the end ofthe day his stomach hurt from all the hot dogs and cheese fries that he found on the boardwalk. Deciding that it would not be prudent to ride the Cyclone rollercoaster, he recovered on the beach and ended up making new friends. He could not resist playing a few booth games although he did not walk away with any stuffed animals. Like most busy New Yorkers he had never visited attractions such as the Statue of Liberty and the Cloisters; these he visited for the first time to photograph.
