Bővebb ismertető
This Dictionary was compiled to satisfy the acute need for an up-to-date English-SerboCroatian lexicon. Although American English is the dominant standard described in the Dictionary, considerable attention is paid to British English.
This Dictionary represents a companion volume to the author's SerboCroatian-English Dictionary published by Prosveta, Belgrade, 1971, 1974, and 1977 and the University of Pennsylvania Press, Philadelphia, 1971.
Many persons assisted in the compilation of the Dictionary. All cannot be mentioned here. A major contribution was made by a number of consultants, all of whom speak SerboCroatian as their native language. Among the consultants were: Naum R. Dimitrije-vic, Belgrade University; Milica Draskovic, Belgrade University; Dusan Glumac, West Chester State College (Pennsylvania); Dusan-ka Hadzi-Jovancic, Nis University; Boris Hlebec, Belgrade University; Milivoj Ilic, Belgrade University (School of Veterinary Medicine); Katarina Ivis, Gimnazija, Zenica; Mladen Jovanovic, Nis University; Damir Kalogjera, Zagreb University; Dusanka Markovié, University of Pennsylvania (Library); Rada Mirkovic, Belgrade University; Zorica Mitrovic, Belgrade University; Olga Nedeljkovic, Staroslavenski institut, Zagreb; Radoje Simic, Belgrade University; Zivojin Stanojcic, Belgrade University; Dunja Jutronic-Tiho-mirovic, Split University; Zlata Zlatanovic, Druga beogradska gimnazija.
E. Wayles Browne of Cornell University commented on the plan of the Dictionary and the presentation of the entries.
The typing and preliminary editing of the manuscript were carried out under the direction of Mary Monohan. She was assisted by: Vida Antolin, Rebecca Benson, Zorica Dominko, Ana Gajski, Helen McArthur, Kate Mishel, Suzanne Rose, Lisa Shapiro, Violet Simsic, Nancy Turner, and Stephanie Urchik. They also made many valuable suggestions, especially in regard to currently used English colloquialisms and slang.
