INTRODUCTION This manual is designed to assist you in using the black-line test masters that accompany Silver Burdett & Ginn English. Included in the manual are the following: description of the tests instructions for administering and scoring the tests recommendations for use ofthe test results class and individual score charts answerkey evaluation forms, writing sample master, answer sheet unit, midyear, and end-of-year tests writing samples DESCRIPTION OF TESTS Silver Burdett & Ginn English provides three types of multiple-choice tests for Grade 5: unit tests, a midyear test, and an end-ofyear test. Each test measures the mastery of objectives taught in the Student Edition. Unit Tests Each unit has two parallel test forms labeled pretest and posttest. Both forms measure the same unit objectives, such as Identify plural nouns. Although intended to be administered before and after instruction of each unit, the Pretest and Posttest may alsó be used to test and retest students, or as a twopart posttest. For the teacher who prefers to test writing more fully, or for the teacher who must prepare students for state-mandated writing sample (essay) tests, there is a writing sample for each unit, following the end-of-year test. See page T4 in this manual for suggestions about scoring the writing sample. Midyear Test An achievement test designed for administration after the completion of Unit 4, the midyear test measures skills taught in Units 1-4. End-of-Year Test An achievement test designed for administration after the completion of Unit 8, the end-of-year test measures skills taught in Units 1-8.
