THE MAGIC OF GRANADAGeneral notions on GranadaIt is indeed true that a city owes is character to those who builtit and lived within its walls. In Granada, the geographical situa-tion, the climate and the surrounding country are the basicelements which during long centuries have imperceptibly mouldedthe lives of its inhabitants, and influenced their ways of livingand building. For this reason, the visitor who comes to Granadashould not expect to find archaeological ruins on all sides; ratherwill he find himself in a living atmosphere which is the delightof the soul and the senses. The Grenadine region consists of acoast which is everywhere accessible to Mediterranean invaders, and a mountain range from which such invaders can sucessfullydefend themselves against counter attacks from the hinterland be-yond. Thus, this world in miniature, from its Sierra the highestin all Spain descending to the fertile lands of the broad plainand the tropical richness of its coastal strip, has been the scene ofthe longest epochs of influence of each of the incoming civili-zations.
