Bővebb ismertető
'Help yourself to English' is concerned with conversational English. It is designed to help you to speak and to understand the language as it is actuaily spoken. Although there are a few exercises in the book which are meant to be answered only in written form, the principal concentration, in the drills as well as in the explanations, is on what you will actuaily hear and say in English - and not so much on what you will read or write. The broadcasts will give you the opportunity to listen, to speak aloud, and to correct not only what you are saying but alsó how you are saying it: your pronunciation, stress and intonation. These are very important and in each broadcast there wil! be a special 'speech' drill so that you can really concentrate on improving the sound of your English. At the end of somé of the lessons in the book there are prose passages, which are mainly intended to enlarge your vocabulary and give you somé background information about everyday life in Britain. In a short course of ten lessons, it is impossible to cover more than a few aspects of spoken English, and those that we do deal with are treated only selectively. J. P.
