Bővebb ismertető
TO THE TEACHERImpact! is a three-level ESL reading skills development program designed to be used in conjunction with any ESL series. Impact! is also a powerful teaching tool to use with native speakers who need to master reading skills. The program uses a sight word approach tested and proven most effective with adult beginning readers. Impact! is unique in that it guarantees success to students by controlling grade level, grammatical structures, and required reading skills, while presenting adult topics and survival vocabulary to ensure motivation. Numerous illustrations provide helpful context clues for understanding vocabulary. Writing, speaking, and listening skills are integrated into the program as well.Book 1 of Impact! is intended for students who already possess prereading skills. These students should also understand the concept of print as a written representation of speech, be capable of discriminating between like and unlike words, and have practiced the left-to-right, top-to-bottom eye movement necessary for reading in English. It is crucial to the successful use of Impact! that the vocabulary and grammar be taught orally and in meaningful context before students begin each lesson. As an aid to teaching vocabulary, use the detailed illustration at the beginning of each lesson in Book 1 of Impact! In most cases, the grammar structures will be reinforcing grammar work learned through the ESL series being used in the class. Spend time working orally with students to be sure that they feel comfortable using the vocabulary and grammar in each lesson. Do not begin the reading lesson until the vocabulary and grammar have been mastered orally. (How to accomplish these goals is fully explained in the Teacher's Guide.)Use of the Teacher's Guide for Book 1 of Impact! is recommended. It provides step-by-step directions, as well as follow-up and enrichment activities, for effective use of the student text. In addition, the Teacher's Guide features answer keys, lesson-by-lesson charts of ESL and reading structures, and discussion ideas.
