LESSON ONE 1. The new term is beginning. To begin means to start. It is the beginning of a new school year. Mother must get the children's clothes ready. What do the children need ? The boys need new suits. A pair of trousers and a short coat made of the same cloth are together called a suit. They also need new shirts, pullovers, socks and shoes. Do they need anything else ? Yes they need new underclothes. What are underclothes ? Underclothes are the clothes we wear under our other clothes. Sometimes they are called underwear. And the girls ? What do the girls need ? They need new dresses, skirts, jerseys, blouses, socks, shoes and underwear. 2. What do you do with clothes ? You wear them, of course. Yes, you do, and sometimes you tear them. What happens when you tear your clothes ? Mother mends them. When you wear your clothes for a long time you wear them out. When your clothes are worn out you cannot wear them again. What must you do when your clothes are worn out ? When your clothes are worn out you must buy some new clothes. 3. What clothes do children need for the night ? For the night boys need pyjamas and girls need pyjamas or nightdresses.
