Part I. (Spring in Winter) 1. A peculiar personality. At first sight we can rank her with any meaningless town girl, although perhaps not even as handsome. She is beautiful, but it is not this which attracts her admirers: she is charming, yet it is not her charm having such effect on her adorers. He who gets near her must be very lucky: there cannot be a single loving heart which fails to notice that this meaningless town girl, perhaps not even as handsome as the others, is in reality a lustreless and precious stone. She has passed her sixteenth year but looks about eighteen. Well developed, agile, a little plump. The youths fly around her like bees around the beehive. She is admired and envied, the local heroine. At school she is the ideál of the girls - and one young master. Another girl might surely become conceited of the master's admiration, but she simply overlooks such impropriety. The Almighty has carved with the red stroke of love another face into her young heart. Her hidden and secret feelings do not altér her, for she remains a schoolgirl.
