Introduction Some moments are forever frozen in our consciousness. Such is the moment which gave birth to this book. After a gruelling ten-month run of ministry which had taken me to fifteen foreign countries and countless conferences - in addition to the weekly adventures of leading Willow Creek Community Church - I had finally arrived for my summer break at our little family cottage on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. There, away from the pressures and incessant demands of ministry, I could recharge my batteries and get some new direction. There I could also pursue my recreational passion of yacht racing, as well as spending quality time with family and friends. Early one morning, I took my Bible and spiral notebook and headed out for a time of spiritual refreshment, as I have done nearly every morning for the past fifteen years.
