Preface The study reported in this book was accomplished under a grant from the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation be-tween the United States and Spain. The authors wish to thank the Comite Conjunto for their faith in our project and Ramon Bela and Thomas Middleton for the effective support they gave during the period of the grant. In addition, significant support was provided by the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas, the Centro para el Desarrollo Technologico Industrial, and the Graduate School of Management, UCLA. The research team included a large number of persons whom we thank and whom we identify chapter by chapter throughout the book. Two important contributors were István Lovas and Eric Rose. The former labored at great length to translate the Spanish portion of the text into English. This was accomplished with speed, accuracy, and considerable diligence.
