FOREWORD
Princess Sultana's Daughters is a true story. Though the words are mine, the voice is that of the princess, whose life experiences are, therefore, recounted in first person.
An earlier book. Princess: A True Story of Life Be-hind the Veil in Saudi Arabia, published in 1992, set the stage for this work by depicting the life of Princess Sultana from early childhood to the Gulf War of 1991. This book is the continuing story of Princess Sultana and her two daughters. While it is hoped that readers wiB be able to read both books, Princess Sultanas Daughters is a story in itsdf and can be read on its own.
Although many facts are revealed about a land that is little understood by the Western world, neither book is meant to be a histoiy of Saudi Arabia, or to reflect the lives of all women who live there. Together they are the story of one Saudi princess and her family.
These two books, linked by one woman, come to one conclusion: that the subjugation and degradation of women is a worn-out habit in Saudi Arabia. Though the double standard is still alive and well in
