Mark had his indulgently kind face on. Holly noticed the way the mouth lengthened in gentle amusement, the eyes creased with regret.
'No can do, Nunc,' he said and combed back his floppy brown hair with distrait fingers. 'Much as Holly and I would like to be with you as per usual over Christmas, it means taking time off from the garage and fioliday periods are quite our busiest time.'
Holly felt a sudden pang of guilt; Mark would have liked to spend Christmas here in the holiday village with Reg just as they'd done ever since they were married. It was she who was desperate for a change. Then she swallowed her guilt: Mark was quite right, it was terribly difficult to get dme off at Christmas.
