SEVILLE: SPIRIT OF EVOCATION
Geographical data
Seville is the capital of Andalusia, the metropolis of the region, head of an archdiocese, and the first and oldest court of the ancient kingdoms of these lands. Situated at 37° 22" North and 0° 51" East, the city stands in the valley of the Guadalquivir, on the left bank of the mighty river that was known to the Romans as the Betis This valley is the result of a geological fault, and follows the course of an arm of the sea which in remote aged connected the Atlantic with the Mediterranean. In those distant times it was a deep gulf, triangular in form, and the Guadalquivir, steadily growing as it flowed along its bed, gained new territories from Neptune's grasp as it deposited its alluvial sediments. The altitude of the city is 7,8 metres above sea level in the plaza Nueva. Its climate is inclined to be mild, the annual mean temperature ranging between 18 and 20 degrees Centigrade. At the present time, Seville has a population of some 500.000 inhabitants.
