Working youth
Today, in Hungary, one third of employed people are youth. Hundreds of thousands work in industry, in the building industry, in trade, and in the servicing industry-who are not only a reserve for the future, but the active shapers of the present. They participate in work, in social and political life, and in learning. Statistical data eloquently illustrate their participation.
An outstanding form of the building and consolidation of the socialist country is the Socialist Brigade Movement. Collectives of factories, plants and companies are among the best, not only in work, but also in self education and political life. The Brigades include an increasing number of youth collectives, which gather about 300,000 young people in their ranks.
Work and education fill every day of the young working people. Further training and the constant extension of knowledge are requirements of our days. This is reflected by the educational level of the working youth. Almost half of the young workers take up jobs after a high level trade education, and do not cease to extend their knowledge after leaving school. This aim is served by the skill competitions organized by the Y.C.L., including the Who is the master of what?, with about 15,000 participants a year, or the Outstanding young skilled worker movement.
